HISTORY

SEASON ONE.

At the outset of the series, Carol is compassionate and soft-spoken, though often meek and defenseless, particularly when it comes to facing her abusive husband, ed peletier. she remains fiercely protective over her daughter sophia, attempting to shield her from the various dangers of their surroundings. after ed is beaten half to death, carol comes out of her shell and reaches out to the other memebers of the group, producing the helping hand in getting them out of the cdc building.

SEASON TWO.

When sophia goes missing, she is understandably frantic and wants nothing more than to find her daughter. she steadily begins to lose hope that sophia will be found alive, and even confesses her guilt to a statue of jesus christ, suggesting that she no longer feels religious. during this time, she becomes closer to the surly redneck daryl dixon, after he repeatedly searches for sophia and claims that they will find her alive. they move to a nearby farm after carl is shot, but the hunt for sophia still continues. after sophia is revealed to be in the barn as a walker, carol is initially morose and sees no point in continuing onwards, but a gift of a cherokee rose from daryl turns her around and she begins to stand up for herself, and gains more independence, while strengthening her bonds with the rest of the group.

SEASON THREE.

in the prison, carol is already a strikingly different woman from the one we first saw in series one. confident, sarcastic and building her skills with a gun, she takes on a proactive and pragmatic stance in the group as well as continuing to bond with daryl. she begins to learn some medical skills from hershel and also becomes a mother figure to two girls, lizzie and mika, after their father dies from a walker bite. she is believed dead after the walkers are let into the compound, after the group finds t-dogg's remains and her scarf in the corridor, but after a tense wait she is revealed to be alive and is reunited with the family.

SEASON FOUR.

when half the population of the prison become ill from the deadly flu-like disease, carol takes matters into her own hands. believing only karen and david to be infected, she secretly kills the pair who are on the edge of death already, and burns their bodies in the courtyard outside in an attempt to stop their disease from spreading. fearing the furious tyreese's reaction when he discovers who it was who killed his girlfriend, rick exiles her from the group and sends her on her way, telling her that she is strong enough to survive by herself. arriving just back in time to watch the prison fall, carol continued to wander alone, until she found tyreese, lizzie, mika and baby judith as one of the cluster groups that splintered from the prison. she tearfully reveals to him that she is responsible for the deaths and tells him that she understands if he wants to shoot her, though he denies this, claiming to forgive her even if he won't forget it. after lizzie’s delusions escalate to the extent of killing her younger sister, carol is forced to kill her, after lizzie holds no remorse or understanding of what she's done, and offers to kill judith next, so they can all live together as walkers. the difficult choices made to stay alive leave her emotionally wounded as a result.

SEASON FIVE.

after leaving the grove and the newly buried bodies of the girls, tyreese, carol and judith discover the signs for Terminus and they begin to head there. sensing that something is very wrong after hearing gunfire and rush to stop the herd of walkers attracted by the noise. they discover the truth about Terminus after hearing martin discussing the captives on a walkie, and carol threatens him and ties him up before heading to the camp to free her friends and punish the captors. her resourcefulness is exemplified when she single handedly manages to destroy the cannibal site, able to sneak by the herd of walkers by covering herself with walker blood. doing so, she regains the respect and praise of rick, and her and daryl reunite with an emotional hug. despite her initial hesitation to rejoin the newly established group full time, she eventually welcomes the idea after daryl assures her that she's part of their family. While holding up at the church, her and daryl flee the group after seeing the same car that took beth and learn about grady hospital, meeting noah along the way. despite a near death experience, and carol's loss of faith, the pair are fine, until carol is hit by a car attempting to reach the hospital where beth is being kept. after reuniting with Beth and helping with the deal, carol is wheeled out to rejoin her family and when beth is accidently shot, she comforts a mourning daryl, encouraging him to 'let himself feel it', even as she protests that she cannot allow herself to.

SEASON SIX

carol's intelligence and cunning is pushed to the test when she is brought to Alexandria, and maintains the allusion that she is a weak, dizzy housewife with no real skills to offer the group in an attempt to keep a watchful eye on everybody -- especially as the alexandrians seem to be highly wary of the other members of the group. often cited as rick's right hand woman, along with saryl, she serves as his confidant and counselor, typically advising the most logical approach to a situation, and reminding him that staying alive is the most important thing. after the wolves attack, carol jumps into action, killing many wolves and putting those mortally wounded to rest, much to the dismay of Morgan, who believes that everybody can still be saved. Her housewife image now destroyed, carol once again slips into the shadows and keeps herself busy with looking after judith and carl, and taking lots of watches at the wall.
